A ladder climbs from one word to another, one letter changed per move, and every step has to stand in the list. Par is the shortest climb our engine found, printed before you start.
The count of words that can follow the word you are standing on stays on the screen, so a dead end never arrives without warning. High letters brought in along the way bank bonus points.
Words come from ENABLE, a public domain list: 172,789 words after review removals, fetched 2026-11-03 from the dolph/dictionary copy of the list, commit c65f04b. Words are checked against ENABLE, not the official NASPA (NWL) or Collins (CSW) tournament lists: some tournament words, QI and ZA for example, are not in ENABLE, and some ENABLE words are not tournament legal, so for rated play, check the official list for your event.
